Support Programs

Oak Park Township strives to promote the well being of all its older residents. We offer a wide variety of affordable, and often free, services geared toward enhancing and improving the quality of life of our senior residents including:

  • Chore Program: Assistance with basic household chores
  • Adult Protective Services:  Seniors age 60 and over and persons with disabilities age 18-59 who are residents of Oak Park or River Forest who may be a victim of abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation may report the abuse 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. Contact Township Senior Services (Monday-Friday from 9am - 5pm) at (708) 383-8060 or, 24/7, contact the Illinois Department on Aging 1-866-800-1409.
  • Advanced Directives Clinic:  The Center for Disability & Elder Law (CDEL) helps qualified seniors age 60 and over and persons with disabilities prepare Power of Attorney and Living Will documents for free every 2nd & 4th Tuesday of the month. Qualifications include:  residency within Cook County and a household income at or below 150% of the Federal Government Poverty Threshold. Appointments take place at the Township Senior Services building, 130 S. Oak Park Ave.  Contact the Township Senior Services Department at (708) 383-8060.
  • Affordable Wills: Low-cost will services
  • Benefit Access: Free ride and license plate discount
  • Energy Assistance: Annual grants and energy assistance.  Visit for eligibility requirements for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
  • Senior Health Insurance Program (SHIP): Assistance with applying for Medicare health insurance and assistance with accessing benefits and services.
  • Tax-Aide: Oak Park Township Senior Services is not hosting AARP Income Tax Preparation this year.
    AARP is available at the following locations for tax preparation:
    Forest Park Community Center*, 7640 Jackson Blvd., Forest Park - 708.771.7737. 
    *Transportation service through Oak Park and River Forest Townships Senior Services is available for Oak Park-River Forest residents 60+ to and from this location only.  Please call 708.383.4806 at least 24-48 hours in advance to reserve.

  • Carrier Watch Program: No mail pick-up alerts to police if mail unattended for two days 


  • Caregiver Support Program: Respite in-home, out of home, or in an adult daycare services
  • Cooling and Warming Center:  The Senior Services building at 130 S. Oak Park Avenue serves as a cooling and warming center during extreme temperatures.  The building is open weekdays from 8am-2pm to seniors aged 60 and over.  Please call our Transportation office at (708) 383-4806 to arrange a ride.
