Oak Park property owners concerned about their property taxes have an opportunity to do something about next year’s tax bills. According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, Oak Park property owners can appeal their 2013 assessed values with the Cook County Board of Review between August 5 and September 3. The township is offering residents two ways to get help in filing an appeal.

Oak Park property owners concerned about their property taxes will have an opportunity to do something about next year’s tax bills on July 23. According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, the Cook County Board of Review will conduct a forum about filing property tax appeals for Oak Park property owners at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, July 23 in the auditorium at Percy Julian Middle School, 416 S. Ridgeland Avenue.

The second installment of Cook County property tax bills will be mailed in late June and should be due August 1. This marks the second consecutive year that tax bills will have a mid-summer due date, according to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar.

The Cook County Assessor’s office has announced that it will be accepting appeals of the assessed valuations of Oak Park properties between March 5 and April 5, 2013. According to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar, this appeal period is the first of two opportunities Oak Park residents will have to appeal their assessments in 2013.

First installment property tax bills for tax year 2012 arrived in the last week of January, according to Oak Park Township Assessor Ali ElSaffar. “Property taxes are paid in two installments,” ElSaffar said. “The first installment bill is fifty-five percent (55%) of the total property tax bill for the previous year, and will be due on March 1.”
