Annual Meeting Well Attended
The Oak Park Township Annual Town Meeting was held on April 10th, 6:30 p.m. at the Oak Park Arms Ballroom to accommodate the 66 citizen “electors” that attended. After an introduction by Township Clerk Greg White, representatives from each of the Townships divisions presented concise reports on the activities and accomplishments of the past year: Community Mental Health Board by Executive Director Lisa DeVivo, Youth Services by Director John Williams, and General Assistance and Senior Services by Township Manager Gavin Morgan for GA Case Manager April Dugal and Senior Services Director Desiree Scully-Simpkins. Assessor Ali ElSaffar made comments on his office’s accomplishments and Supervisor David Boulanger concluded the report section with a statement of appreciation to the citizens of Oak Park for their tax support.
In conformity with State of Illinois statute 60 ILCS 1/30-10 the agenda of the Oak Park Township Annual Meeting also included two advisory referenda as presented by citizens in petitions to the Township Clerk. The assembled electorate (registered Oak Park voters) decided after public discussion and vote to submit the referenda for placement on the November 6, 2012, general election ballot. Approval at this local meeting means that the Township Clerk must submit the referenda to the County Clerk for review and placement on all Oak Park versions of the November ballot.
The Township Board had no role in the Annual Meeting, other than to have approved the agenda, which must include up to three advisory referenda items if submitted properly by citizen petition by March 1. The meeting was moderated by a citizen nominated and elected by the assembled electorate.
