Public invited to comment on study of future uses of
YMCA properties
July 30, 2007 – A study jointly funded by the West Cook YMCA, Oak Park Township, Oak Park Residence Corporation, Catholic Charities and the Village of Oak Park to determine possible future uses of the Y's Oak Park properties is now available for public comment.
Click here to download a copy of the study.
The report should be posted to the web sites of the other study funders as well. Comments on the West Cook YMCA in Oak Park Affordable Housing Preservation Analysis may be sent via e-mail to westcooksupportivehousing@hotmail.com. Comments, which will be reviewed by all of the study's funding entities, will be accepted for 30 days. A public meeting will be scheduled for community discussion, likely in late August. Time, date and location of the meeting will be posted on this web page and those of the other study funding entities, as well as publicized through VOP-TV6, the Village’s cable television station, and local news organizations.
Once the review of the study is complete, the YMCA is expected to issue a Request For Proposals (RFP) for the properties. In addition to its main facility at the northwest corner of Randolph and Marion streets, the YMCA also owns a two-flat building at the southwest corner of the intersection and a parking lot a half-block away. The Y will be moving to a new facility in Forest Park in 2009.
The purpose of the study was to determine if the building could become a multi-use facility that could serve the varied needs of the area’s low-income residents. In addition to continuing transitional affordable housing similar to the single-room occupancy now in the Y, the study examined the feasibility of using the facility to provide space for other government and non-profit organizations that serve low- to moderate-income individuals and families.
