Mission
Oak Park Township assists residents by providing a variety of governmental services and resources, with a special emphasis on advocacy and partnerships in human services that benefit at-risk youth and senior citizens as well as mentally ill and financially struggling community members.
Governance
An independently elected Township Board – a Supervisor and four Trustees, governs Oak Park Township. Reporting to the Supervisor and working under the Supervisor’s delegated authority, a full-time Township Manager administers the day-to-day operation of the Township
and is responsible for all staff activities. Board-appointed Senior Services and Youth Services advisory committees assist the Board in its duties. The Board also appoints a Community Mental Health Board (CMHB) that has full control of expenditures from the Mental
Health Fund within the Township Board approved budget.
Finances
Each Township Fiscal Year (April 1- March 31), the Township Board approves a property tax levy (limited by State Tax Cap legislation), passes a budget and approves all payments of Township funds. Three funds are under Board levy, budget and payment control:
(1) The Town Fund for the expenses of general government, Youth and Senior services and Assessor and Clerk offices
(2) The General Assistance Fund for the administration of the General Assistance office and the awarding of grants to citizens meeting well-defined need criteria regarding assets and income
(3) The Mental Health Fund for the administration of the Community Mental Health Board (CMHB) and to fund the CMHB’s programs and grants for mental health providers serving Oak Park.
